Author Guidelines & Submission Standards

Welcome to our journal. These guidelines are designed to assist authors in preparing manuscripts that meet the standards of a Scopus-indexed and TR Dizin-compliant academic publication. All submissions must adhere strictly to the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition style.

  • Originality: Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • Language: Submissions must be written in clear and concise English.
  • Anonymity: For the double-blind peer-review process, the manuscript must not contain any author-identifying information (e.g., names, affiliations) within the main text, figures, or tables.
  • AI and Generative Tools: Authors must explicitly disclose the use of AI tools in the preparation of the manuscript, including the nature and extent of their use, in the Materials and Methods or a similar section of the paper.

The manuscript should be organized into the following sections:

  1. Title Page: This page should be separate from the main manuscript file. It must include:
    • Full title of the manuscript.
    • Author(s) full name(s) and institutional affiliation(s).
    • Contact information for the corresponding author (email, phone number, and mailing address).
    • A brief bio for each author (optional).
  2. Abstract: A concise and factual abstract of 150-250 words is required. The abstract should stand alone and briefly state the purpose of the research, the main findings, and the major conclusions. Do not use abbreviations or citations in the abstract.
  3. Keywords: Immediately following the abstract, provide 4 to 6 keywords that accurately reflect the manuscript’s content.
  4. Main Body:
    • Main body must be less than 8000 words including references, appendixes, tables and figures.
      • Introduction: Introduce the research problem, its significance, and a concise literature review. State the research aims, questions, and/or hypotheses.
      • Methodology: Provide a detailed account of how the research was conducted, including data sources, sample size, and procedures. This section should provide enough detail for the study to be replicated.
      • Results: Clearly and objectively present the findings of the study, without interpretation. Use tables and figures to support the data.
      • Discussion: Interpret the results in the context of previous research and the study’s limitations. Discuss the implications of the findings and suggest future research directions.
      • Conclusion: Summarize the main contributions of the study.

3. Formatting and Style (APA 7th Edition)

  • Font: Use a legible font such as 12-point Times New Roman, 11-point Calibri, or 11-point Arial.
  • Spacing: Double-space all text, including headings, quotations, and the reference list.
  • Margins: Use 1-inch margins on all sides.
  • Headings: Use APA-compliant heading levels to structure your manuscript.
  • In-text Citations: Use the author-date system for all in-text citations.
    • For one or two authors, cite all authors every time (e.g., Smith & Jones, 2021).
    • For three or more authors, cite the first author followed by “et al.” (e.g., Lee et al., 2022).
    • Provide page numbers for all direct quotations (e.g., Lee et al., 2022, p. 15).
  • References: A separate, unnumbered reference list must be provided at the end of the manuscript.
    • The list should be in alphabetical order by the first author’s last name.
    • Each entry must have a hanging indent.
    • All references cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and vice versa.
    • Journal article references must include the DOI where available.

4. Tables and Figures

  • Tables and figures must be embedded within the manuscript near their first mention.
  • Each table and figure should be numbered consecutively and have a clear, descriptive title.
  • Ensure images have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.
  • Obtain necessary permissions for any copyrighted material.

5. Ethical Considerations

  • Plagiarism: The journal uses plagiarism detection software. All submissions must be original work.
  • Authorship: All individuals listed as authors must have made a substantial intellectual contribution to the work.
  • Conflict of Interest: Authors must declare any financial or other relationships that could be perceived as a conflict of interest.
  • Data and Materials: Authors may be asked to provide their raw data and materials for editorial review.

For more detailed guidance on APA 7th Edition, please consult the official Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.).

Article Types Published in the Journal

The African Nexus Quarterly aims to provide a wide range of interdisciplinary research on Africa. The following types of articles are published in our journal:

  1. Research Article: These are comprehensive and scientific articles that present the results of original research. They should include introduction, literature review, methodology, findings, discussion, and conclusion sections.
  2. Review Article: A critical assessment that synthesizes existing research on a specific topic and discusses new directions in the field.
  3. Book Review: A critical evaluation of a newly published book in a specific field. Book reviews should address the book’s main argument, its strengths and weaknesses, and its contribution to the literature.
  4. Short Notes/Commentaries: These are brief, concise discussions or commentaries on an important and current issue in the field or in a published article.

Authors must clearly state the type of article they are submitting during the submission process.

Our journal employs a double-blind peer review process. This means that the identities of both the author and the reviewer are kept confidential from each other. The stages of the process are as follows:

  1. Initial Screening: Submitted articles undergo an initial screening by the journal editor. At this stage, the article’s suitability for the journal’s scope, its format, and basic writing rules are checked. Articles deemed unsuitable may be rejected at this stage.
  2. Reviewer Assignment: Articles that pass the initial screening are sent to at least two independent reviewers who are experts in the field.
  3. Reviewer Evaluation: Reviewers evaluate the article based on its originality, scientific validity, methodology, contribution to the literature, and writing quality.
  4. Editor’s Decision: After the reviewer reports are received, the editor makes the final decision: acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection.
  5. Revision Process: Articles that require revision are sent back to the authors. Authors are expected to make the necessary corrections in their articles, taking into account the reviewers’ comments and suggestions.
  6. Publication: Articles that successfully complete the revision process are accepted for publication.

Book reviews are an important part of your journal’s interdisciplinary mission. Authors writing a review are expected to follow these guidelines:

  • Length: Should be between 1000 and 1500 words.
  • Content:
    • It must begin with the book’s bibliographic information (author, title, publisher, year, number of pages).
    • It should summarize the book’s main thesis or argument.
    • It can briefly introduce the book’s main sections or key ideas.
    • It must critically evaluate the book’s strengths and weaknesses.
    • It should state the book’s contribution to the relevant literature and its target audience.
  • Format: The title and text should comply with the journal’s general APA 7 format.

The African Nexus Quarterly will operate under a Diamond Open Access policy for its first year. Under this policy:

  • No Article Submission Fees: Authors are not required to pay any fees for article submission.
  • No Article Processing Charges (APCs): No fees are charged to authors upon article acceptance.
  • Free Access: All articles published in the journal are permanently free and open access for readers.

The fee policy for subsequent years will be reviewed and announced at the end of the first year of publication.
